Wine & Beef Pairing
This week I thought I would look at the delicate science of how to pair wines with beef. Read on for some great advice from Britain’s oldest wine and spirits merchant, Berry Bros & Rudd. Founded in 1698, they know a thing or two about what goes with what. And with every pairing you will find a link to the wonderful Lidgate food that goes with it.
Beef en Croute
A mature Red Bordeaux will go really well or any good red with low tannins.
Steak and rare Roast Beef
These dishes provide a great opportunity for drinking a tannic, powerful wine – an occasion to have a big Red Bordeaux or Red Rhône
Beef Bourguignon
Red Burgundy or Merlot is the traditional match for Beef Bourguignon.
Steak and Kidney Pie
A weighty Pinot Noir would be great.
Cottage Pie:
Cottage Pie needs a low tannin Red wine with little or no oak influence. It goes very well with Beaujolais.
