Flavours of June
The new month brings new tastes with bright radishes, peppery watercress and rocket adding a kick to salads. The abundance of fresh summer fruit means desserts are easy with big bowls of strawberries are all you need for a sweet way to finish a meal.
This is also the month to see new tastes from home grown fruits such as blackcurrants, cherries, gooseberries, raspberries, redcurrants, rhubarb, strawberries and tayberries
The month got its name from the Latin Iunius, “of Juno (Iuno),” referring to the Roman goddess. The name Iuno itself appears to come from the Latin iuventas, “youth,” and as June is the youth of summer, it is an appropriate name to have.
So given their abundance, this is a great time to start thinking of cooking with fruit such as One-Pan Chicken with Ginger and Apricots, Pork Chops with Apple and Cider, Pancetta and Pear Salad, or Chicken Tagine with Prunes and Apricots. Have a look here for a whole range of ideas.
