Kid, the new Turkish restaurant on Frith Street, has been open only a couple of months and is already collecting rave reviews. It brings together two chefs with strong pedigrees: Sertaç Dirik, whose previous venture Mangal II was named among Time Out's top 50 restaurants in London, and David Carter, whose Shoreditch BBQ spot Smokestak won a Michelin Bib Gourmand when it opened in 2016.
There are several ways to spend an evening there: at the bar, across from the cooks as they prepare your food; at a table in the main room, surrounded by the bare-brick aesthetic; or, for a larger group, on the private floor, which comes with a mini wine cellar built into the walls. Kid suits a casual lunch as happily as a big occasion.
In the kitchen, traditional Turkish recipes meet fresh British produce. Starters worth a look include Sucuk with Grilled Peach and Bluefin Ezme covered in Kapya Pepper, with some Wildfarmed grilled Pide alongside, perhaps a Taramasalata with Onion Crisps and Capers or a classic Fried Chickpea Hummus to dip.
For mains, the Galata Mackerel may be the most popular dish, but the Lamb Lokma with Şakşuka Ezme and the oven-cooked XL Cornish Scallop with Coco Bean Fasülye are well worth your attention. A pocket-sized mastic ice cream with a little mint oil makes a neat end to the meal.
A restaurant that can do lunch and a big occasion alike? That sounds like a good enough excuse for a visit.

UK Sausage Week is with us again, running until Sunday 1 November. The annual celebration sets out to find the UK's best sausage, and it shines a light on how much sausages matter to the UK meat industry, as well as their place as a much-loved food enjoyed by millions.

The Tacover: Taco Festival
Taco fans are in for a treat this weekend, as The Tacover returns to Signature Brew in Walthamstow on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. More than 15 food vendors will be on site, selling tacos at the very affordable price of £4 each, with music and drinks available at the Mexican Beer Hall.
And if you fancy a challenge, there are hot taco-eating competitions and a tortilla slap competition, though they're not for the faint-hearted.
Eataly Wine Festival
Eataly is holding its Wine Festival on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October, and everyone's invited. From 5pm to 10pm on both days, at 135 Bishopsgate, just outside Liverpool Street Station, you can taste your way through wines from various regions and winemakers, while hearing the stories behind some of the best Italian wines they have on offer. Last entry is at 9pm, so if you're reading this on Friday, the evening ahead is your last chance.
