PYRO Restaurant & Bar

When: Opened 1 May 2025

Where: 53B Southwark St, London, SE1 1RU

BOOK: https://pyrorestaurant.co.uk

Bringing the spirit of a Greek taverna to the heart of Borough, this new opening has taken social media by storm thanks to its idyllic covered outdoor dining space and inviting Mediterranean menu made for sharing. Chef Yiannis Mexis (previously Head Chef at HIDE) celebrates cooking over fire with dishes such as their Souvlaki Skewer, Coal-Seared Bass, and Dorset Lamb Cooked Over Alder Wood. You can graze on their range of classic dips and flatbreads or branch out with some of their innovative options such as Mussel Saganaki or Asparagus, Smoked Eel & Avgolemono from the fire. Their “Sunday Greek Feast” offers an indulgent set menu, and it’s got some great reviews. The restaurant has an Athenian-inspired courtyard, with a rattan-style covering, beachy furnishings, and an open kitchen. It’s reported to be almost fully booked in their first month of opening although you can take your chance with availability for walk-ins.

The Ultimate Al Fresco Dining Experience

The Grove has recently announced the return of its quirky hot air balloon pop-up: Feast on Cloud 9. A collaboration with immersive dining experience masters Feast, diners can take in the scenic views seated in fairground-inspired hot air balloon baskets. Guests can expect a creatively themed menu featuring dishes such as “Hook-A-Duck” Liver Pâté and “Coconut Shy” Mousse. Also on offer is a wonderfully traditional afternoon tea. Tables are available from 28 May until 31 August and are likely to go quickly! Click here to reserve your balloon (and it’s only a 15-minute drive from Watford Junction!) …

The Return of the Ice Cream Project

Anya Hindmarch’s much-loved summer pop-up parlour will be serving an array of ice cream flavours that Willy Wonka himself would be proud of. Setting up shop on Pont Street near Sloane Square, The Village is a little collection of Anya Hindmarch concept stores. A must-visit for any self-respecting ice cream addict, expect weird and wonderful flavours inspired by store cupboard essentials. Coming back for its fourth summer, past seasons have featured collaborations with Tropicana orange juice, Sun-Pat peanut butter, Kellogg’s Frosties and even Filippo Berio pesto. To skip the queues and make a day of it, book the Ice Cream Project Blind Tasting Tea at the Anya Café to experience 15 of their cult-classic flavours.
