Tiella: A Trattoria and Bar

When: 21st January

Where: 109 Columbia Road

Book: https://www.tiella.co.uk

It’s time to head down to Bethnal Green and visit what Time Out has ranked the number one new restaurant in London: ‘Tiella’.

A classic Italian trattoria, ‘Tiella’ offers a luxurious yet homely dining experience that is well worth trying to get a table for.

To start, go for some crowd-pleasing table sharers. Their marinated olives, along with their 40-month aged Prosciutto di Parma, are excellent places to begin, accompanied by a nice medium bodied bottle of red.

Though some Italian restaurants, particularly in Italy, can be hard places to source vegetarian food, ‘Tiella’ is a little more malleable. You might want to try the Delica Pumpkin with Radicchio Agrodolce and Taleggio Fonduta, a creamy yet fresh pumpkin and squash dish. Or opt for the simple and smooth Passatelli in Brodo for starters.

The Braised Squid with polenta is a flavourful seafood main, which might take your fancy but if you’re looking for a meatier main, The Chicken Milanese with green apple, fennel and celery, and their signature Maria Pia’s Polpette, served with bread, are not to be missed.

With excellent service, affordable prices and rave reviews, it feels like a no brainer to go get a table as soon as you can. For more information, click here.

Nargisse Benkabbou at The Pilgrim

With only a couple of weeks until the end of her residency at The Pilgrim, it would be a shame to miss out on this Moroccan chef and her excellent dishes. Benkkabou brings a modern lens to traditional Moroccan delicacies. You can expect dishes such as smoked harissa carrots with yoghurt, green olives and almonds, and Lamb Maqfoul with Jammy Onions and Tomatoes. For more information click here.

Java Whiskers - Cat Café

While not for everyone, there are few more joyful places than a cat café on a Sunday morning. Excellent service, lovely coffee, and a nice selection of pastries all add to the experience. You go for the company rather than the menu.

With two lounges on offer, Cat and Kitten, take your pick. Various kittens will be roaming around to hang out with you as you enjoy your coffee. Don’t worry too much about the cats, as there are a good few of them who take shifts. For more information click here.
