Danny's Days - 15th December 2025
The last week has been full-on. Our phones have been ringing constantly and I hope everyone who has tried has been successful in getting through. We are still taking orders for a few more days but some stock is starting to run out.
Right, so I have been asked quite a bit recently, “Danny, what do you eat on Christmas Day?”
Well, I’m a traditionalist. I like a Turkey, but I also like Beef and Gammon. I know it’s a bit OTT, but when you see all the smart looking joints leaving in orders it’s very difficult to resist.
My Dad always liked a Turkey, but my brother and Mum always tried to sway him. He remained strong and pulled rank for many years. Years later we all have our own families, and with Dad passed away, Mum takes it in turns to spend Christmas with each family.
But back to the food, I like a hearty breakfast usually including eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, hash browns. A couple of times I’ve cooked Eggs Benedict. In recent years, I actually enjoy doing the cooking. Once the morning celebrations of presents has occurred, I’m straight into the kitchen. I love smoked salmon, and even though I don’t tend to eat so much through the year, come Christmas day it’s my starter of choice.
Last year we cooked a whole Turkey, with Pigs in Blankets, Chestnut stuffing with a smaller joint of Contre Fillet and Smoked Gammon on the side. What a feast it was, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
Anyway, before we know it we shall all be back around our dinner tables hopefully enjoying the magic of Christmas with those closest to us.
I hope all your planning has been done, and for any left to place an order at Lidgates, ROLL UP, ROLL UP, stocks are getting low!
I wish you a wonderful delightful December week,
The very best wishes,
Danny
P.S. If you are passing the shop this weekend, don’t forget we are OPEN on Sunday 21st December.
