When: Opened 14 June 2025

Where: 160 Great Portland Street, W1W 5QA

BOOK: https://www.mareida.co.uk/

After their temporary residency at Carousel last September, Mareida is setting up shop with their fine-dining take on Chilean cuisine, with “unique ingredients and creative culture” at its heart. Chilean chef Carolina Bazán oversees the menu with head chef Trinidad Vial Della Maggiora, whilst leading sommelier Rosario Onetto has curated the wine list. With Chilean food rather underrepresented on the London food scene, this new spot is a chance to sample South American flavours from the coastline to the mountain ranges. Chilean culture runs through the restaurant’s design and ambiance, with the country’s music and artwork showcased alongside the food. The menu consists of a variety of small/sharing plates featuring dishes such as empanadas, ceviche, churrasco, and flan. There’s plenty of choice for vegetarians, and an affordable “express” lunch menu for £15 which includes Yuca Fries, Churrasco, and a beer or soft drink. Whilst only a handful of reviews have been published so far, the first reactions appear positive. Highlights emerging online seem to be the house Pisco Sour, Sopaipillas (pumpkin bread with a black garlic butter), and Hojarasca (“an indulgent mix of dulce de leche, raspberries and vanilla that sits in the same family as a pavlova”). Excitingly, Mareida will be hosting a series of guest chefs from the Southern Andes over the next few months, so check out their social media to stay updated.

Jimmy’s BBQ Club Riverfront Dining

Located on Queen’s Walk right by the Thames, this summer supper club pop-up returns to offer alfresco dining alongside great music, immersive cooking, and maximum flavour. Open until September 21st, diners can expect a six-course feast cooked in front of them on an open fire with sittings at both 1pm and 7pm. Back for the eighth year running, Jimmy’s BBQ Club is a tried and tested success by chef Jimmy Garcia. Iraqi chef Suzia Bakos is taking over the tasting menu on August 17th if you’re looking to try something different such as Molasses Ribs and Makanek Sausage. Otherwise, the pop-up’s daily menu which champions some of London's best artisan suppliers and fresh seasonal produce is always available for those with a booking (no walk-ins guaranteed). Cocktails in the City

Bringing London’s best bars together in one place in pop-up form, this much-loved festival will be returning to Bedford Square Garden from 7th until 9th August. Whether you’re an expert mixologist or simply curious about cocktails, guests will enjoy experiencing the industry’s latest trends, techniques, and flavours, accompanied by award-winning food stalls and live music. You can expect to see the likes of Fever Tree, Sipsmith, Lucky Cat 22 Bishopsgate, Disrepute, Quaglino’s, 818 Tequila, and Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee. There are plenty of events on the schedule too, such as masterclasses, a silent disco, tasting sessions, and talks from industry leaders. Click here to read more and book tickets.

Alfie’s Comes to Carousel

From 5th – 9th August, chefs Alex McCoy and Justin Ahn will be sharing their love for Thai-inspired cooking as they return to Carousel, the restaurant which hosts a revolving line-up of world-class guest chefs. The two chefs opened their Northern-Thai restaurant in Georgetown, Washington earlier this year, having toured the world as a pop-up for 8 years. Offering staggered sittings for dinner from 6pm, it’s a rare opportunity to discover the dishes that have earned the culinary pair such enduring acclaim. Featured on the menu are Braised Lamb Belly Massaman Curry, Venison Tartar Laap, and Pandan Mahalabia, amongst other standout dishes. Unfortunately, a vegetarian or vegan menu is not available, but it’s an ideal experience for meat-lovers craving authentic Thai flavour. Click here to book your spot.
