Newsletter - 6th March 2026

When: February 5th 2026

Where: Thomas Tower, Dalston Square, E8 3GU

Book: https://www.thegoodfrontroom.co.uk/

It started as a Channel 4 TV series which pits various chefs against each other to win the opportunity for a residency at the Langham Hotel. Well, anyone who still thought it was just a novelty will be happily surprised with the winner, Chef Dom Taylore’s, new permanent home. Named ‘The Good Front Room’ after his great aunt’s beloved living room, this new Caribbean hot spot is a must see, situated right in the middle of Dalston Square.

Where to start, though, is the biggest question when entering any highly anticipated new restaurant. We would suggest going for the Jerk Chicken with plantain jam, roasted sweetcorn, and crisps. For mains, try the rum glazed pork belly served with a side of charred hispi cabbage and poached golden raisins.

Now, if you want a greasy weekend brunch, you will not leave disappointed. For starters, there are gentle options to ease you in, such as the mango salad with date syrup or the coconut yoghurt with rice granola. For mains, they will pile your plate, if you so desire, with beans, goat chipolatas, whipped avocado, and golden poached eggs. So there will probably be no need for dinner!

For dessert, I’d return to the heartfelt, homely dish of Nan’s Apple Crumble, which uses Demerara stewed apples and shortbread crumbs alongside some vanilla bean ice cream. Or, if you have a sweeter tooth, maybe go for the Strawberry Gateaux.

Pie Making Masterclass

It’s British Pie Week this week and rarely will you find someone who doesn’t enjoy a good pie, which means I’m confident that this masterclass will fill up pretty soon. At Jamie Oliver’s Cooking School, a masterclass in pie making is delivered by London’s ‘King of Pies’, Callum Franklin. On Oxford Street, enjoy this three-hour class on making a traditional pork pie and a Bramley Pink Lady apple pie, so there’s something in it for the meat eaters and veggies as well. If you’re interested, you can book here.

Enfield feasts

This Saturday, for one day only, head to the Dugdale Arts Club. Ren Behan, a British and Polish food writer, presents an excellent set menu for this supper club. For starters, there are fresh crudités served with a selection of homemade Polish pickles, and ‘Little Pigeons’ is the main, which is stuffed seasonal cabbage with wild mushrooms and cracked barley, served with a Forty Hall bacon and mushroom sauce. Beef stew is available for mains served alongside some lazy dumplings with roasted butternut squash and mushrooms. To book, click here.

Cowboys Pizza

The Wild Wild West isn’t something just on the West End right now or the Golden Age of cinema. You can now get a taste of it at this western style long term pizza pop up at Next Door Records. Find the Wild West in this Notting Hill based record store and gorge on their fresh Neapolitan ingredients. I’d suggest the Naughty Cowboy, a pepperoni and hot honey pie, or the Cowboy Classic, which contains San Marzano tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, Parmesan, and basil.
