Tommy's Sandwiches

When: Opened 5th January

Where: 201 King’s Cross Road

Book:  https://www.tommyssandwiches.com

In the UK, the American sub was probably a sandwich you had only seen in films and TV. Such as, the diner scene in ‘When Harry met Sally’, the restaurant in FX’s ‘The Bear’ or even the ‘10 foot sub’ Homer Simpson feasts on for weeks in Season 4 of The Simpsons. Well, now one homesick American chef, named Tommy, has started this American classic restaurant right into the middle of King’s Cross.

As to the decision around what to order, don’t worry, we have you covered. Why not try Tommy’s Club Sandwich, as it is a signature of the new lunchtime hotspot, with turkey, ham, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes all neatly packed into a crispy Dutch Crunch bread. A slightly messier but excellent sandwich is the Del Pozzo, which includes chicken, cheese, onions and Stilton, covered in Buffalo sauce. Sides, which in UK sandwich culture are most likely a Twix or a sausage roll, are just as good as the mains at Tommy’s Sandwiches. Maybe try the creamy macaroni or potato salad if you’re still a little peckish.

Tommy’s Sandwiches has set out to save how England has their lunch, so I encourage you to take your time, have a gander to the restaurant and enjoy a rich, luxurious lunch sub from the heart of the US.

Ten

At the Southbank, the winter themed pop ups have closed down, and new ones have taken their place. So, let me introduce the Southbank’s newest cocktail bar: ‘Ten’. Simplicity is key to this new bar. Just ten carefully curated cocktails are available. Each cocktail has a key  ingredient sourced from a different area of London. The Dirty Shirley is a fun twist on the Shirley Temple; a vodka mixed with ginger and a raspberry fizz. The Oatnog brings along some of that recent Christmas spirit. It’s a decadent and creamy drink with Two Drifters signature rum, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. For more information click here!

Session Arts Club Residency

A new rotating residency launches on the 8th of February at the Sessions Art Club. A gorgeous dining room, whose faded walls and arches resemble an old Italian mansion, will have  a range of guest chefs coming in to cook for you. Coming up this weekend is Jago Rackham, who has created a menu offering various eccentric dishes such as blood orange, almond and ricotta salata, various pies including beef and prune, and langoustine and mackerel, and a signature St Agata cake. For information on how to book, click here.

Orchid Festival at Kew

The Annual Orchid Festival at Kew launches this weekend. This year it has taken a huge amount of inspiration from Chinese culture. They will have fashion shows, live music, and of course delicious food and drinks on offer. At the beautiful Princess of Wales Conservatory, the ‘Orchids After Hours’ is a “unique chance to celebrate the beauty of China after dark”. To enjoy this beautiful, classy and a little bit boozy late night flower festival, you might have to grab a ticket before they all go, so if you are interested, click here.
