When: Opened 12th February 2026

Where: Choumert Road, Peckham,

Book: https://www.baracafe.com/visit-us

Often, we can get blinded by the glitz and the glam of new Michelin-star chefs opening major Mayfair hotspots, and we can miss the more modest openings which are equally as brilliant. This week we have chosen to shine a spotlight on the opening of a new Welsh café in Peckham: Bara Café. Started by Zoë Heimann and Cecily Dalladay, they say they not only wanted to focus on fresh Welsh produce and recipes but also on bringing joy to their customers and community.

If planning a trip there, I’d head quite early as they do not take bookings. But if you manage to grab yourself a table, you might like the Swansea Breakfast, an old Welsh delicacy which includes freshly cooked cockles, dry-cured smoked streaky bacon, sweet leeks cooked in butter and a spoonful of laverbread. Another delicious choice would be The Caerphilly Cheesesteak, served with their homemade bara brisket, sauerkraut and leek mustard, or even the Panko Aubergine Parm, which contains juicy aubergine with rich tomato sauce, melty mozzarella and fresh basil.

Finally, there is their signature, rather exciting, Lobster Roll, which contains Pembrokeshire lobster from Wales’s first regenerative seaweed and shellfish farm. Their homemade mayonnaise, binds the whole thing together and makes it a luscious lunch you won’t forget in a hurry.

National Waffle Day – Kula Café

This Wednesday is National Waffle Day, and whilst you might want to celebrate it at home with bucketfuls of maple syrup and a good film, we have an alternative option. In Marylebone, there is a Swedish all day café and brunch hot spot which has an excellent selection of savoury and sweet waffles to try. I’d go for their signature Swedish waffles made with creamy buttermilk and vanilla. They suggest having them with lingonberry jam or freshly whipped cream to get the perfect balance. Sign and Dine Event

Marco Pierre White says the best meals are not about the food but about the people you eat with. Well, we have a special food event where the most important thing is the ability to communicate with whoever is at your table. Let me introduce the “Sign and Dine Event” at Brunel University London. You can experience an excellent two-course meal whilst being taught simple sign language phrases. Only an hour and a half long and much more enjoyable than Duolingo! So why not head over and purchase tickets for the affordable price of 15 pounds? To book, click here.

Jamaican Cookery Class.
