French Society
When: Opened 22 May 2025
Where: 77 Mill Lane, London, NW6 1NB
BOOK: https://www.frenchsociety.co.uk/
From the team behind Patron, the Parisian-style brasserie in Kentish Town, comes French Society in West Hampstead. Headed by chef de cuisine Louis, who has been at Patron for the last seven years, reviews are describing the spot as similar to its sister restaurant but with its own unique character. Described on their website as ‘Parisian charm flirting with modern soul,’ the place sells itself as a laid-back bistro with a sense of community and welcoming charm (dogs are encouraged!). With an emphasis on French culinary tradition, expect classic dishes such as ‘Escargots en Cocottes’, ‘Moules à la Crème’, and ‘Crème Brûlée’. Their lunch menu offers some tempting lighter options such as ‘Wild Garlic Mushrooms on Toast’ and ‘Croque Monsieur with Dijon-Honey-Cured Egg Yolk.’ Open Tuesday-Saturday, this spot boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, serving scrumptious dishes which have gone down well so far with reviewers. The Nudge describe the interiors as ‘a pretty good impression of Paris in the ’20s,’ with wide French windows which can be opened on sunny days. As for the food, the menu is described as ‘short,’ and ‘confident,’ with a focus on getting the classics right. With a pleasing blend of ambiance and privacy and a passion for showcasing French food at its best, it sounds like this new West Hampstead establishment is set to impress.
Tacos with Friends at Side Hustle
Side Hustle, stationed at Nomad London Hotel in Covent Garden, is set in the location’s former Police Station. With a menu as intriguing as its building, this restaurant is influenced by Latin American flavours as well as a passion for Southern Californian fresh cuisine. With a unique offering of salsas, small dishes, tacos, and sweet treats, the venue offers a lively yet relaxed setting for drinks, dinner, or late-night snacking. Side Hustle’s monthly series invites notable collaborators to create a bespoke taco which temporarily features on their menu, with a portion of profits going to food waste charity City Harvest. For June, actor Will Poulter has celebrated his debut appearance in ‘The Bear’ with his take on the taco inspired by one of his mum’s favourite ingredients: Pickled Honeydew and Braised Pork, with Sweet and Spicy Habanero. July is set to feature a collaboration with Monica Berg, bartender and Co-Founder of Tayēr + Elementary, so expect a mixology-inspired taco creation!
