Arcus Rooftop

When: Opened 14 August
Where: 61–66 Russell Square, WC1B 5BB
Book: Arcus Rooftop

A rooftop table in London usually comes with a hopeful glance at the forecast. Arcus Rooftop in Russell Square takes a more practical approach, with a sheltered terrace designed to make the most of the skyline even when the weather has other ideas.

The menu changes with the seasons, with plenty to tempt you up for brunch. Those with a sweet tooth can choose caramelised apple crumble toast with vanilla ice cream and banana, or hazelnut toast with chocolate pearls. For something savoury, there’s avocado and poached egg, or seared British beef in a charred pitta with fried egg and hollandaise.

Later in the day, sharing plates include grilled octopus with confit potatoes, tomato and smoked paprika, and slow-braised British lamb tacos with roasted pepper purée and crispy kale. The sort of dishes that give you a good reason to order another plate for the table.

The cocktail menu follows the mood of the day too. Solstice combines tequila, Aperol, chilli, tarragon, strawberry cordial and citrus, while Pulse pairs tequila with Beesou honey, turmeric, citrus and grapefruit soda. Settle in for brunch or stay for an evening drink, without leaving quite so much to the weather.

UK RumFest

UK RumFest returns on 17 and 18 October for its 20th anniversary, bringing together rum makers, tastings and masterclasses. It’s a chance to explore different styles of rum and hear from the people who know them best.

There’s plenty to eat between tastings too, with Caribbean food made using local British ingredients and Jamaican patties from family-run Port Royal. Come for the rum, but leave room for lunch. Explore UK RumFest’s food offering and ticket information.

Brixton Oktoberfest

October brings a good excuse for a Bavarian-style afternoon, and Brixton Oktoberfest arrives at Freight Brixton on 17 October. Expect beer, bratwurst and hearty street food to keep you going.

If you’ve been waiting for an occasion to bring out the lederhosen, this could be it. Find tickets for Brixton Oktoberfest.

Langan’s Brasserie: The Odyssey

It may feel a little early to be planning Halloween, but Langan’s Brasserie is giving you a reason to look ahead. Its Night of Myth and Mayhem takes inspiration from the Greek tales of The Odyssey, with music, cocktails and a Mayfair setting transformed into a world of gods and heroes.

The usual brasserie menu will still be available, so you can make a proper dinner of it before getting into the spirit of the evening. Find event details and booking information at Langan’s Brasserie.
