Motorino
When: 20th October
Where: 1 Pearson Square, Fitzrovia, W1T 3BF
Book: https://motorino.london/
Motorino blends classic Italian elegance with the bold energy of London’s dining scene, creating the city’s first Italian-London fusion restaurant. Just minutes from Goodge Street Station, inside, it has a vibrant, futuristic atmosphere and strikes a balance of sophistication and playful flair. Through its orange-framed windows, you’ll often see Michelin-starred chef Luke Ahearne at work. Ahearne, known for his acclaimed Mediterranean Lita bistro, in Paddington, has crafted the menu with Chef Steve Parle of Town and Pastaio.
I’d suggest starting with the Chopped Dexter Beef Tartare which is hidden beneath a maze of shoestring fries. I would mix and match the starters and snacks by going for a portion of Wild Farmed Focaccia, drizzled in butter and olive oil, or the Tomato Salad in Cherry Vinegar. For mains, if the tartare hasn’t satisfied your meat cravings, try the Slow Cooked Beef Cheek with peppercorns and polenta, or the Spinach Crostata with charred brassicas and Parmesan. A pasta dish is a must, a crowd-pleasing classic being the Gigli al Gin with fennel sausage, tomato and Ford’s Gin. Though it may look rich, the sauce has a surprisingly light, succulent taste that keeps you going back for more.
The bar evokes a late-night luxury café with its polished wooden floors and rich green walls. For cocktails, their Classico Negroni is simple but excellent, while the more adventurous among you might enjoy the La Noce Martini, made with Boatyard Vodka, nocino, ambrato vermouth and saffron onion.
For wines, the Albariño offers a crisp, dry and accessible white to accompany any pasta dish. For red, The Wild Irishman might be for you, a bold Pinot Noir from New Zealand with a light touch of cherry.
