Jane Steward of Eastgate Larder calls medlars 'our forgotten fruit'. Cultivated in Britain for hundreds of years, the medlar fell out of favour in the 19th century. Jane holds the National Collection of medlar trees in Norfolk. The fruit for her medlar jelly and fruit cheese comes from her young orchard of 120 trees, as well as private gardens and National Trust properties in Norfolk as it’s not commercially grown.
